Washington Highlands Library Survey

On March 31, 2009, DC Public Library showed the public for the very first time their proposed design plans for the new Washington Highlands Library.

There were about 20 Ward Eight residents on that night at the library seeing these images for the first time. There is a report of this meeting with videos, located here.

DC Public Libraries issued a renovation analysis of the current Washington Highlands building last year -- located here.

It shows that if the current library building was renovated -- updated with the lastest plumbing, electrical, and technological needs -- it would save close to two million dollars.

In addition, there are Ward Eight residents fearful that the demolition of the current building may cause problems for the homes on the hill sitting above the library and that it will greatly disrupt the community.  Click here for a list of demolition concerns raised by Ward Eight residents.

Would you support the idea of renovating the current library building in order to take the dollar savings and build other library locations in Ward Eight currently underserved by DCPL?
